Ngakuta Bay Community Association Business Plan
The following are the objects of the Association:
NOVEMBER 2019
Finances
To facilitate the raising of funds in 2019 for
Incorporated under the Incorporated Societies Act 1st March 2010 Community Liaison
To network with the wider community, including:
DOC
Link Pathway
To have a representative from NBCA Committee on the Link Pathway committee. Civil Defence/Neighbourhood Support
- To represent the interests of members of the Ngakuta Bay Community Association.
- To provide a forum regarding the concerns and interests of residents and ratepayers of Ngakuta Bay.
- To provide representation and a focal point for Ngakuta Bay residents and ratepayers to national and regional authorities, such as (but not exclusively):
- The Marlborough District Council
- Marlborough Roads
- Marlborough Lines
- Department of Conservation
- New Zealand Police
- To work in conjunction with the above organisations so as to achieve all or any of the objects of the Association.
- To provide advocacy for the advancement of the objectives of the Ngakuta Bay Community Association.
- To conduct any fundraising to provide funds for local amenities.
- To provide a focal point for information in respect to civil defence emergencies in Ngakuta Bay.
- To provide and encourage social and recreational activities within the community.

- Wetland restoration project
- Contribution towards toilet upgrade
- Pest control, community donations

To network with the wider community, including:
DOC
- Maintain open communication through our NBCA committee representative.
- To keep the “Foreshore Management” agreement with DOC updated.
Marlborough Roads
- Continue to work with Marlborough Roads to improve the safety of all users of Queen Charlotte Drive through the residential area of Ngakuta Bay.
- To investigate the installation of pedestrian crossings to manage the speed of motorists.
- To raise money towards these crossings if required. MDC
- Maintain contact with our local representatives, Nadine Taylor, Barbara Faulls and David Oddie with invites to our AGM and our newsletter postings.
- Having a representative at all Picton Forum meetings. Picton Police
- To distribute the regular newsletter from the Picton/ Sounds Police Office.
- To be represented at any of the events organised by the Picton Police for liaison
purposes.
Boating Club
- To keep communication open between the two organisations.
- To have at least one NBCA Committee member also as a Boating Club member.
- To assist the NBBC with time and labour to maintain the jetty and launching ramp.
- To be actively involved in the process of developing a mooring plan for the Bay.
Neighbouring Communities
Link Pathway
To have a representative from NBCA Committee on the Link Pathway committee. Civil Defence/Neighbourhood Support
- Ensure all properties have a copy of the Ngakuta Bay Civil Defence Advice Sheet.
- A representative of the Association will attend any of the Linkwater CD meetings.
- A public meeting will be held when recommended to review procedures in case of
an emergency and the advice sheet will be updated.
Communication Website
- To regularly update the website https:/ngakutabaycommunity.weebly.com
- To work towards making the website a more widely used tool for all ages, visitors
and locals. - To develop a Facebook group (by invitation only) that is linked with the website.
Newsletter
- To keep property owners informed of happenings in the Bay and of Association plans.
- To produce a minimum of three newsletters a year. Environment
- The Foreshore Enhancement group is now the Environment group with management of the Wetland Restoration and Trapping projects as their main focus.
- 2019 will see increased planting and trapping in the eastern wetland area to improve the bird habitat.
- Increased trapping in Little Ngakuta has happened and plans to extend this through to Governors Bay are underway.
- To liaise with Marlborough Sounds Restoration Trust re completion of the removal of wilding pines.
- To liaise with MDC re eradication of pampas grass and dog rose.
Eastern Lookout
A proposal to enhance the lookout area to the east of Ngakuta Bay.
- Work towards eradicating invasive weeds (broom, gorse, convolvulus, blackberry etc).
- Plant low growing natives to retain good viewing.
- Seal the area
- Install a bench seat.
Social Events
- Mid-year gathering in June/July
- Be open to suggestions from community for other events
